Bruegel the Elder's
'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus' 1555?
Many
of Bruegel's paintings show dramatic events taking place without anyone
else much noticing. In this painting Icarus has already fallen victim
to his own hubris and will soon die a watery death. The peasants tending
their fields and flocks don't even notice his death plunge, their
interest remains with the quotidian present.
